    • Details
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar, the U.S. Mint has produced a very limited quantity of 2021-dated Morgan Dollars. As the New Orleans Mint is no longer operating, this coin features a privy mark of the famous "O" mint mark.

Of the 175,000 of each 2021 Morgan Dollar released, only 17,500 of them were made available through select distributors before the official launch of the product. The Advanced Release designation signifies that this was among this very small group of coins, the absolute first to be released from the mint.

After 100 years, the U.S. Mint has finally made a new Morgan Dollar, one of the most popular numismatic series of all time. With an issue representing each mint facility that originally struck Morgan Dollars, these coins will be highly popular with modern collectors and fans of vintage U.S. coinage alike.

    Morgan Dollars
Produced from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921, the Morgan Dollar is one of the most iconic coins in U.S. history. These large Silver coins, bearing George T. Morgan's design of Lady Liberty, were widely circulated in the United States. Because of their historical appeal and their pivotal role in America's history, these coins have become among the most popularly collected series in numismatics. Additionally, because large quantities of these coins were stored as part of America's strategic silver reserves in Treasury vaults until the mid 20th century, a large quantity of these vintage coins exist on the market to help support their collectibility. This 2021 issue, released 100 years after the last Morgan Dollar was struck, continues this popular series, and offers an opportunity for collectors to purchase this iconic coin produced with modern minting techniques.

    New Orleans Mint
The mint in New Orleans produced Morgan Dollars from 1879 to 1904. Reopened in 1876 after being seized and used for coinage by Confederate forces in 1861, the New Orleans Mint played a vital role in minting the Silver required by the Bland-Allison Act. After the Denver Mint opened in 1906, the need for minting in New Orleans was reduced, and the mint was decommissioned in 1911, before the final 1921 Morgan dollar release. As the mint is no longer a U.S. Mint facility, 2021 Morgans could not be struck here, but 175,000 coins were produced in Philadelphia bearing an "O" privy mark, reminiscent of the New Orleans Mint's "O" mint mark.
