John Tyler was the 10th president of the United States and was in office from 1841-1845. He was the first president to be born after the United States declared independence from Great Britain. Tyler was also the last Whig president. One of Tyler's most significant accomplishments was his role in the annexation of Texas. In 1845, Tyler helped negotiate the Treaty of Annexation between the United States and Texas. The treaty was approved by both the US Senate and the Texas Congress, and Texas became a part of the United States.
