This U.S. Mint American Innovation $1 Coin issue celebrates Dr. Jonas Salk, an American physician and medical researcher who developed the first safe and effective vaccine for polio.
This program is a multi-year series honoring innovations and innovators with $1 coins from each state, District of Columbia and U.S. territories. These coins will be issued concurrently with the Sacagawea Native American Dollar.
Coin Highlights: - Composed of outer layers of .770 Copper, .120 Zinc, .070 Manganese and .040 Nickel bonded to an inner core of pure Copper.
- Individual coins are packaged in original U.S. Mint packaging.
- Reverse Proof finish means that the polished and frosted areas of a Proof finish are reversed with the fields frosted and the devices given a mirror-like finish.
